Pounding out stress on the drums

A reader echoes Matt’s comments about the power of the drums in music and recommends a bit of drum-beating every day as an antidote to stress.

Matt responds:

Beating on drums every day sounds like a great idea!

In my business life, I would much rather have beaten on people’s heads every day rather than drums, but now that I’ve found tranquility in the arts, a little tomtom will do!

My son played a mean set of drums—he was backup for Bachman Turner Overdrive and toured with them for a little while.

The stress release of pounding on something always makes you feel better, especially if the drum is well-suited and the head needs it!

I believe most of the time I should be pounding my own head—but we never know our own failures.

So until that time, I’ll let my hair grow, and maybe it won’t hurt as much!

Matt

P.S., I’m stocking up on Aleve!
