In response to Matt’s comments about the business world, a reader who is a management consultant remarks that employees can react in the most efficient way if they understand the system they are working within, from the ground up.
Matt responds:
The realization that there are people who have the vision and talents to be able to take reality, fantasy, and possibility and use them as a means of creating something better for the whole species—is refreshing. If we all had a little shake of that in our lives, this world would be a better place.
I always look at the small additions to a seemingly mundane situation as the salt and pepper and garlic and rosemary—the spices—that bring the dish alive, or turn something that was colorless into a rainbow.
It takes special people to be able to manipulate and imagine the possiblilities of things we already see, and start the metamorphosis. If you didn’t know it, who would ever think a lowly caterpillar could become a beautiful butterfly? To do something similar in business takes courage, imagination, time, and effort.
Thank God for innovators and people like you who, through observation and the realization that things take time, allow the metamorphosis to take place.
We’re always rushing with time frames and stop watches and scheduling. Quite often we criticize ourselves, calling up excuses.
Your analogy that they are important parts of development is excellent.
As I’m in my 77th soon to be 78th year..
..I will use it as a guidepost to not put anything off, but as a realization that possibily the stew isn’t cooked yet.
