Matt and Rose's 55th wedding anniversary coming up October 2

With Matt and Rose's 55th wedding anniversary coming up on October 2, a reader recently asked Matt what he believes is the biggest challenge facing newlyweds today.

Matt responds:

The biggest challenges to any marriage are redundancy and intolerance:  taking for granted and thinking that there’s nothing new.

The reality is, there’s always something new.

The partnership should always be an adventure.  There should always be more mountains to climb, more laughs to be had, more adventures to be savored, candlelit dinners, good scrappy arguments, great pats on the back, and a few kicks in the ass!

All of the spices and sweets of early life should continue and actually get better, so that we don’t quite know what’s going to happen, but we revel in the expectation of a new beginning.

There’s never an end, only a reawakening of what we knew many, many years ago.

As we get older, we seem to be able to shuck some of the bullshit and bring up more of the whipped cream.

Never forget:  Chocolate cake is the best!  It should be the wedding cake!

Dear Matt...That attitude is written all over your face and the beautiful Rose. You both look young, in love and lit from within. So cool. Congratulations! Best wishes.
