I think the strength of the United States of America is the synthesis and the diversity of our backgrounds.
We are not a tribe; we a mixture of all religions, nationalities, and cultures.
I am beginning to wonder if we have become too compartmentalized because of the myriad of information we’re given on cable television and the WorldWide Web. It seems that for every group, there is a megaphone, and so we keep standing in front of it, listening to the same song and the same dance by the people we agree with, and we never become attuned to the songs that the other people are singing.
Our strength is that we are a smorgasbord. We take a little bit of this, a little bit of that... That’s what a democracy is.
I revel in being an Irish-American, but you won’t always watch me dancing the Irish jig. I love to dance the Greek dance, the African dance, I’ll dance with a tom-tom and do a Native American dance...
I’ll dance any dance as long as my legs and feet will carry me!
