Hello, bloggers.
Last week I flew to Miami for an opening of a satellite show to Art Basel Miami Beach. It was wonderful to see everyone, especially all my great friends from Spain.
The show was in the Wynwood District, and it was called Post-human: Goodbye to Mankind.
It was put on by the Reial Cercle Artistic of Barcelona, and in addition to myself it included Pepa Poch, George Rodez, Gonzalo Obes, Heather Brilliant, Josep Puigmarti, and Adria Nomada.
I want to thank the Reial Cercle Artistic for including me in this great show!
One of our readers recently asked me what my favorite city in the world is, so I’ve been thinking about that having recently been in Miami, and now in Chicago, and getting ready to return to our home in the Florida Keys.
I always say, and I really believe, that wherever I am is the place I like the most.
As I mentioned, I just got back from Miami, and while it sounds very chic and exciting to go to Miami and have a show, the reality is, I got up at 3:30 in the morning in Chicago, rushed to get on an airplane, was met at the airport in Miami at 11 in the morning, was whisked off to meetings, and sat with different people and groups until the show opened at 6...
I talked at length to everybody, made some speeches, went out for dinner, collapsed in bed about 11 o’clock, then got up early and got on a plane to come back to Chicago.
The great part of these trips is that I’m never met as a stranger. I’m met by my friends from Germany, Spain, England, France, and other countries.
Wherever we go, Rose and I are never met as business people, but as friends and family. That’s what I love about travel. Whenever I go someplace, I’m constantly greeted with, “Welcome home.”
The buildings, the rivers, the mountains, the deserts, those are the physical places, but the culture, the spirit, the friendliness, the love of the people—that’s what makes life so joyful.
You can say you love a river and a mountain, but with small exceptions, physical landmarks are always going to be the same.
But loving people is something with many ramifications. We can eat together, party, laugh and cry, we can change the world.
