All sides of the debate

I always try to honor all parties, all debates, all sides of all questions.

I always feel that if we become too entrenched in anything, it makes true the great statement of the ages:  “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

All we have to do is look at the Roman Empire and the emperors who turned into despots, forgetting about the good of the people.

How we feel about social matters, what government’s role is in our lives, how we react to things political—I believe these matters are not constant and set in stone; they are a living, breathing expanding and contracting entity.

We live in many political situations:  a city, a county, a state, a country, a continent, and then a world.

Are all things always the same in all places?  Absolutely not.  A city might be burning while a country is complacent, and the world doesn’t give a damn.

To look for one answer to the human condition puts us into a box.

There was a time in history where slavery was a fact, even a law, even condoned.  The Nazis tried to dehumanize people so they could kill them more easily.

All these things are very troubling to me:  man’s inhumanity to man, and how we can make laws and do things under the guise of government, which are really against our species and ourselves.

Just because I print a name on my hand to remind me what party I am when I go in to vote, doesn’t mean it’s a universal concept.  All of these situations we like to make easy, but they really are not.

That’s why I call for the New Las Alamos, where people we consider of all kinds, who are open to suggestions to better the human race, will come together and figure out how to hate each other but inhabit this great planet together.

We must be constantly educating ourselves, watching what we’re believing in, and asking whether we are following the path that we started down.

It’s chilling to watch hundreds of thousands of people yelling “Heil, Hitler.”  I always imagine the smoke from the inferno of the burning bodies that were destroyed by that regime.

How foolish we can become.  How easily we can be fooled.  How we can fool ourselves.

The only thing I can say is:  Forget labels, work for a better species and a better world, and call it whatever you wish.

That's an interesting set of questions to ponder.  Makes me think ofthe question of conscience.  Do we have laws that follow what ourconscience would have us do?  Or does our conscience respond to whatthe laws say we should do?  What comes first, an individual'sconscience or a society's laws?  Penny for your thoughts?
